Goalies Lead Off Parade In A.H.L. All-Star Voting
Followers of the feats and fancy plays of American Hockey League puckchasers get their chance to face off this week in THE HOCKEY NEWS Annual All-Star Team selections. Commencing with this issue, and running through until March 16, the fans will get a chance to name the players of their choice at each position, as well as the All-Star Coach, for the 1948-49 A.H.L. Super Sextet. This week it’s the goalkeepers, and next week the defensemen, and so on. Balloting for positions on the mythical crew concludes March 16, and the winning players will be announced on April 13. Now—or Later! You can select your favorite A.H.L. goaltender and send the ballot in now if you wish. Or, if you prefer to wait until later in the season to see how the netminders fare…

REAL HAB FAN Dear Sir, Being a staunch Montreal Canadien fan from a way back, I would like to know what some of the oldtlmers are doing now in public life, such as Armand Mondou, Wilder Larochelle and Georges Mantha. Also some data on Earl Robinson, Jimmy Ward, Russ Blinco and Glenn Brydson of the old Montreal Maroons. They seem to be forgotten. And how about Bert Connolly of the New York Rangers’ To me Bert would have been an all-time great if he had played with Canadiens or Maroons. He was rated the best player in the Maritimes when he performed with Moncton Hawks, the Allan Cup champs. By the way, your paper is tops and the best of luck for bigger and better issues, and hoping more Maritimers come your way. Jake Barbery.…
Schnurr Shows Snazzy Style
TULSA, Okla.— Most great all-round athletes are six-footers weighing in the neighborhood of 180 or 190 pounds, but one of Canada’s best all round athletes is a member of the present Tulsa Oiler hockey team and only stands five feet ten inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He is Bobby Schnurr and if he hadn’t chosen professional hockey as his career, he’d probably have become a major league baseball shortstop. In fact, he once signed a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals and even right now tile Detroit Tigers would like to get his name on the dotted line. But. hockey and baseball are only two sports in which Bobby excels. He has been a star quarterback in football and piloted three teams to Canadian championships. He played forward on a championship basketball team.…
