Brimsek’s Bereavement Gives Bruins Strange Chance To Try Three Rookies
BOSTON, Mass.—Rookie goaltenders coming into N.H.L. as relief fill-ins aren’t unknown, but when a team uses three in a row that puts it into unusual class. Let one of the substitute puck blockers notch a shutout, and you’re really in the manbitesdog class. Yet, that’s exactly what happened with Boston Bruins. Their regular goalie, Frank Brimsek, was forced to leave the team because of the death of his 10-months-old son, Frank Jr., at his home in Eveleth, Minn. First the Bruins brought up Les Colvin, a former Q.S.H.L. goalie. That wasn’t too successful, so Gordie Henry was brought up from Hershey.
