Looks Are Deceiving; Pint-Size Doug Maher Every Inch A Player!
HOUSTON, Tex.— You wouldn’t think he was a hockey player just to look at him, but that pint-sized 145-pounder, Doug Maher by name, has caught the fancy of Houston fans again. Chosen as the most popular player for the Houston Huskies last year when the team annexed the league championship, Maher has continued to gain the plaudits of the crowds this year despite the fact that his team is somewhat in arrears in the 1948-49 campaign. Doug has the physical props to catch the fancy of anv hockey follower. He measures only 5’5” in his stocking feet and tips the beam at 145, which is six more pounds than he weighed last year when he played such a key role in the Huskies’ championship drive.
