Player - Of - The - Week
“Wild Bill” Ezinicki, whose goal with only 21 seconds of play remaining Saturday night, sent Boston Bruins crashing out of first place in the National Hockey League as Toronto Maple Leafs won 3-2, has been named by THE HOCKEY NEWS as the player for the past week and winner of the Morgan Hat Award. It’s not so much the fact that Ezinicki netted the winning counter against the Bruins that he has been choosen, but more that his work so far this season has been outstanding for the Leafs. Toronto have been finding it hard to get going and Bill is one of the few Leaf players who has been a standout. Only two points separate Caps from Flyers at this writing. Lethbridge Maple Leafs have been the most recent team to take a slump. Pete Slobodian’s club dropped a 3-2 decision on home ice to Calgary Stampeders, and two nights later lost 6-2 to Stampeders and then bowed 4-2 to Flyers at Edmonton. Calgary and Leafs are deadlocked for third spot. The league receive a slight shot in the arm when Saskatoon Quakers upset Edmonton 4-2 at Saskatoon. It was the third victory for Quakers, who have shown considerable improvement in their last few starts. The veteran Reg Bentley showed…
