Kenora Thistles Back Again

KENORA, Ont.— The once-famous name of Kenora Thistles is back in the hockey firmament. It was back in 1939-40 that the last Kenora club carrying that name was being talked about. The Thistles of that season — a junior aggregation — battled to the Memorial Cup final only to lose to Oshawa Generals three games to one. This season’s Thistles are of the senior variety and they are involved in the new Manitoba-Lakehead circuit. Coach of the club is Bill Allin, while president is Jimmy Williamson and trainer is Jimmy Miller, a well-known local amateur boxer. When the Thistles held their first practice recently in Winnipeg, Allin announced that 34 players would be seeking positions with the club. Canucks, Ironmen In Player Swap

SEATTLE, Wash.— Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Ironmen, both of the Pacific Coast Hockey League were involved in a trade recently. Seattle sent Bill Shill, centre, and Ab Collings, left wing, along with a bundle of cash to Vancouver for Paul Waldner and Bus Brayshaw. Waldner plays defense while Brayshaw is a left winger.…

Scotty Munro Coaches WJHL Bellevue Lions

CALGARY, Alta.— Bellevue Lions, the club which has been more or less orphaned since the start of the season because of the fact Benny Hayes failed to show up to accept the coaching job, may come to life and give rival teams in the Western Junior Hockey League a good run for their money in future games. Management of the mining city team recently announced the obtaining of Roderick (Scotty) Munro for the job of coach of Lions. The deal came as a big surprise, considering Scotty’s good showing last year in the Memorial Cup playdowns with Lethbridge Native Sons. Munro left Native Sons in good standing and there are no hard feelings between the former Moose Jaw Juvenile coach and club manager Ed. Bruchet. Apparently the two merely agreed to disagree.
