Sweeney Is Flying Again With Regina

CALGARY, Alta. — Any one who was previously under the impression that Regina Capitals were doing Dave (Sweeney) Schriner a favor by giving him the opportunity to make a comeback in hockey may quickly reverse their feelings. Sweeney, who thrilled thousands of hockey goers for years in the N.H.L. with his fine play for New York Americans and Toronto Maple Leafs, is pulling his weight, and in a big way too. When Caps went on their last road jaunt Sweeney bagged two goals to spark Regina to a 4-3 triumph against Frank Currie’s potent Edmonton Flyer crew. Dutton Is Tough Hombre Yet, As Westerners Find

CALGARY, Alta. — Mervyn “Red” Dutton, who was one of the most respected committee room men when in the National Hockey League, Is cracking the whip again! But this time, instead of the Dutton whip hand being wielded from the N.H.L. Presidency, it’s in the capacity of Governor of the new Western Junior Hockey League, which went into action for the first time this fall. At a recent meeting in Calgary Dutton slapped a $50 fine on the four Alberta teams for playing pucksters who were improperly registered. Teams fined were Medicine Hat Tigers, Bellevue Lions, Calgary Buffaloes and’ Lethbridge Native Sons. “And next time the fine levied will be $250,” barked Dutton when he handed out the bad news to the teams. “From now on no player will be permitted to compete in a…
