Wally Kilrea Popular Coach With Rabid Fans Of Philadelphia Club
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.— Wally Kilrea merely “came home again” when he took over the coaching of the Philadelphia Rockets last season. As a “kid” of 21, he had played with the old Philadelphia Quakers away back in 1930-31. He had been sent “on loan” from the Ottawa Senators with another “kid”, Sid Howe, to help bolster the ever-losing Quakers’ squad. Both went on to establish big names for themselves in the hockey world. Philadelphia liked Wally then and it likes him now. Fans were particularly pleased when Peter A. Tyrrell, President and General Manager of the Arena, signed him to coach the Rockets In the summer of 1947. The season before (1946-47), he had coached Fort Worth In the United States League, and had made quite a name for himself not only as…

Both clubs trained this fall at Three Rivers, Que., and the players who showed the most promise but were still a little removed from landing a berth with the Reds were farmed out to Seattle for the season. The Pacific Coast Hockey League will be operating as a professional league this year and the calibre of play will be vastly improved over the past couple of years. Players graduating after a season or two in-thls loop will be polished performers when they reach the Rhode Island sextet. Once this tieup gets rolling. Providence fans can…
