Babe Pratt Signs To Play For New Westminster Club

Walter “Babe” Pratt, for 11 years one of the top defensemen in the National Hockey League, has signed a contract owith New Westminster Royals of the Pacific Coast Professional Hockey League for the 1948-49 season. Kenny McKenzie, owner of the Royals contacted Pratt in the east and talked him into coming to the west coast. Last year he played with Hershey Bears in the American League. Alex Shibicky, playing-coach of the Royals, made the announcement. adding that the acquisition of Pratt would “help the club considerably.” “Pratt still has a lot of hockey In him,” said Shibicky. Other brightening news from the New Westminster camp revealed that mammoth Dave McKay, who played part of last season with the Royals, would be in uniform for the first game. Frankie Brimsek Ordered To Rest

HERSEY’, Pa. — Boston Bruins will complete the training grind without the services of Frankie Brimsek, tlieir ace goaltender. Brimsek has been ordered to get out in the sunshine by Coach “Dit” Clapper. Frank reported to the club this fall in poor physical condition and has suffered from a “strep” throat and is underweight. JackGelineau will take over Brimsek’s spot for the remainder of the practices session blit it is hoped that the regular custodian will be back when the N.H.L. season starts.…

P.C.H.L.Tieup For Providence

SEATTLE, Wash.— Seattle Ironmen of the Pacific Coast Hockey League are an affiliated club of the Providence Reds. The hookup is believed to be one of the best in pro hockey and should prove extremely beneficial to both organizations. Both clubs trained this fall at Three Rivers, Que., and the players who showed the most promise but were still a little removed from landing a berth with the Reds were farmed out to Seattle for the season. The Pacific Coast Hockey League will be operating as a professional league this year and the calibre of play will be vastly improved over the past couple of years.
