Rates As One Of Best Prospects In Amerk Circuit

NEW YORK, N.Y.— One of the brightest future prospects to make an appearance on the American Hockey League scene this season is Kenneth George “Buck” Davies, of the New Haven Ramblers. A “rookie” just breaking into new surroundings is always under the critical eye of the spectators, players and coaches. His opponents are anxious to find out just what to expect from him and how high to regard him as an adversary. The fans are busily engaged in comparing him with past performers and forming their opinions as to just how much of a success he will be in future years. Davies has more than lived up to his advance notices with his performance this season. Being rated a top-notch rookie is no new experience for Ken, as last season, his first…

PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

It has often been said that as Richard goes so go the Canadiens. Well it was more than true last week and because the Rocket was really flying the Canadiens won three straight games last week and remained in the running for the Stanley Cup playoffs. Richard’s play resembled that of old, and it was he along with linemate Elmer Lach who sparked the Montrealers to the best winning streak of the season. The Rocket’s best scoring spree of the year earns for him THE HOCKEY NEWS’ nomination as the Player Of The Week along with the Morgan Hat Award. Richard notched seven points in three games last week and against the Rangers on Sunday in New York he scored four goals as the Habs won 6-3. His performance marked…

Bunny Morganson Views the Ontario Scene

LOOKS LIKE THE HAMILTON Tigers and Windsor Spitfires all the way in the settlement of the Ontario Hockey Association's senior and junior “A” title series. Tigers, who came up with some rip snorting hockey to eliminate Toronto Marlboros in 5 games, are now administering the same treatment to the Kitchener-Water-loo’s Flying Dutchmen. Tigers took a two game lead in their best of seven series with the “Dutchmen” winning the opening game at Hamilton by a 4-2 score and than claimed the second affair in Waterloo by a 5-2 margin after ten minutes of overtime. PLAYING THE FIRST two games of their final round with Barrie Flyers on the home ice, Windsor claimed both decisions. They won the Monday night opener 4-2 and then eased through a tidy Wednesday night affair with…

Royal Ousting Comes As Shock To Loyal Fans

MONTREAL. Que.- Montreal can blame the veteran George “Punch” Imlach, playing coach of the Quebec Aces, for this city’s second Allan Cup winners being knocked out of the running. It was Imlach’s Quebec Aces who upset the applecart by whipping the Royals, winners of the Allan Cup last year, three straight in their best-of-five series. Royals were picked to at least fight their way into the finals due to their great late season spurt that carried them into second place behind Ottawa Senators but were never able to cope with the kittybar-the-door tactics employed by Imlach and his Acemen. It appears as if the Allan Cup holders burnt themselves out in the dying stages of the Q.S.H.L. schedule Frank Carlin’s club faded against Quebec’s style of play and only managed to score three…
