MARTY TURCO
THE HOCKEY NEWS: What do you remember about the very beginning and breaking your way into the league? MARTY TURCO: I got to be part of two Cup runs and watch guys perform at a high level. It was awesome to get a chance to back up a couple years before starting. I didn’t play my first game until I was 25, but by the time I played it, I felt super seasoned and confident. THN: Dallas was obviously in an era of transition as you started, but what about the league overall and the goalie position? MT: Goaltending specifically was starting to take form in terms of style. I was fortunate to come into an organization where they allowed Eddie Belfour to move the puck, and then they allowed me to push…
THEOREN FLEURY
THE HOCKEY NEWS: It took more than three decades for a playoff Battle of Alberta. Something you know a little about. You gave Flames fans a huge moment in the last one in 1991 with a Game 6 overtime goal and a full-ice, knee-slide celebration that still gets talked about today. What did you think about this spring’s long-awaited rivalry renewal between the Flames and Oilers? THEOREN FLEURY: There have been so many rule changes that have been made, it’s hard to compare what we went through to what the guys are going through now. It’s a different game, it’s a different time, it’s a different era. We would probably have to kill 20 penalties. When we played, it was violent and brutal. We were trying to hurt each other –…
BRYAN LITTLE
THE HOCKEY NEWS: There were some lean years in Atlanta and Winnipeg. But in 2014-15, the team finally makes the playoffs. What was it like to get that first taste of the post-season? BRYAN LITTLE: I can’t remember how many seasons into my career it was that I didn’t play a playoff game, so I was craving to get into the post-season. That lived up to expectations in the way the building was and the atmosphere was and coming out to ‘The Whiteout.’ It made you hungry to get back. It didn’t go our way, but a lot of those games were close, and we actually had the lead in a couple of them. Just being a part of that first playoff experience back in Winnipeg was amazing, something I’ll never…
ROBERTO LUONGO
THE HOCKEY NEWS: Congratulations on your call to the Hall of Fame. It’s only been an hour since you got the news, but how special is it to wrap your playing career this way? ROBERTO LUONGO: It’s extremely special, but I feel like it really hasn’t hit me yet. It feels a little bit surreal. When you’re playing, you don’t play hockey to be in the Hall of Fame, right? You play to win the Stanley Cup. It’s only when your career is done that you kind of start thinking about that other stuff. THN: Your trade to Florida along with Olli Jokinen is regarded as one of the best in team history. Do you remember learning you would be joining the Panthers? RL: I actually recall it vividly because it was a…
