NEW YORK RANGERS
OWNER JAMES DOLAN It’s a family affair in New York with the Dolans, the Rangers and the Knicks. The cable company has moved on, but sports and entertainment are still prime time THE PROSPEROUS DOLAN family has owned Madison Square Garden, the Rangers and Knicks, the MSG Network and other venues for almost 23 years. Since the Long Island family, whose core business was Cablevision Corp., one of the largest cable providers in the U.S., gained complete control of the teams in 1997, the most visible presence at Blueshirts games has been James L. Dolan, 63, who is executive chairman of the MSG companies and a son of the patriarch, Charles Dolan. The brief was the league’s attempt to formally document the impact of its operations on the environment, society and the financial well-being of their member-team marketplaces. “The 2014 NHL sustainability report is the first of its kind in major professional sports, and its scope and ambition are impressive,” wrote Michael Kourabas, a social-advocacy lawyer,…

NEW JERSEY DEVILS
OWNER HARRIS & BLITZER Josh Harris and David Blitzer have provided stability and cash to a team that’s missed that at the top for a number of years. And the pair are big hockey fans, too PATIENCE wasn’t always a word that came to mind when talking about New Jersey Devils’ ownership and management during the two-and-a-half decades starting in the late 1980s. A succession of head coaches can attest to that. Current managing partners Josh Harris and David Blitzer, however, have remained resolute and committed to spending despite seeing their team missing the playoffs six of the past seven seasons while winning a total of one post-season game in that span. GM Ray Shero, who signed an extension in April, was allowed to bring in high-priced talent like P.K. Subban. Clearly, Harris and Blitzer…
