Now, as they move into a new era without their longtime franchise cornerstone, they hope to build on the optimism generated in Bill Peters’ second year behind the bench and end that drought. The promising young defense is unchanged, the goalie tandem remains in tact and the team largely sat out of free agency. The Hurricanes will need considerable progression up front from Elias Lindholm and exciting newcomers Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho. PREDICTION 7TH in CENTRAL STANLEY CUP ODDS /// 75-1 Since their 112-point season in 2013-14, the Colorado Avalanche have continually regressed, slipping steadily to 39 wins and 82 points in 2015-16. And absent major upgrades, the Avalanche might be stuck in the same rut – or worse – heading into Year 4 of the coinciding tenures of coach Patrick Roy and GM Joe Sakic.
