IF ERIC LINDROS is ever going to make the Hockey Hall of Fame, this is his best opportunity yet. Now in his seventh year of eligibility, ‘The Big E’ has seen 19 players get the green light to Hall induction since 2010 while the selection committee said no to him. This year’s list of first-time eligible players is lean, with Miikka Kiprusoff, Roman Hamrlik and Wade Redden the top names. All are considered long shots to get 75 percent approval from the 18 members of the selection committee. So maybe 2016 becomes a makeup year for candidates who were previously passed over. GREATEST GREAT ONE FANS OF THE Great One will soon have the chance to bid on his greatest trading card. The only 1979 O-Pee-Chee #18 Wayne Gretzky rookie card to be graded a perfect 10 will be up for auction at the National Sports Collector Convention in Atlantic City Aug. 4. It won’t come cheap, however. “The fact that just one card has achieved this perfect grading is remarkable,” said Ken Goldin, founder of Goldin Auctions. “With the recent surge in interest among serious collectors for high-grade examples of rookie cards, we expect this Gretzky card to establish a new benchmark…it might become hockey’s first $500,000 trading card.” The event will feature 100 lots of memorabilia, each valued at $10,000 or more and corresponding catalogue auction will start in July.
