KHL’S QUIET SUPERSTAR

I’VE GOT EVERYTHING I WANT IN MAGNITOGORSK. IF EVERYTHING IS GOOD HERE, WHY NOT FINISH MY CAREER WITH METALLURG? AT THE KHL AWARDS in Moscow, Sergei Mozyakin added even more hardware to an already overflowing trophy case. His haul included trophies for the being league’s top goal scorer (32), top point-getter (67), most sportsmanlike player and, of course, most valuable player. Ask Marty and Mark Howe to select one game as their favorite from the seven seasons (six in the…

For a few weeks this spring, however, brother Joel was the one receiving the royal treatment as he captained Frolunda to its first Swedish League championship in more than a decade, beating Skelleftea 4-1 in the final. At 34, Joel Lundqvist enjoyed the best season of his Swedish career, before or after his three-year stint with the Dallas Stars from 2006 to 2009. He had a career-high 19 goals and 38 points in 45 games, though an injured kneecap late in the regular season forced him to miss the first few games of the playoffs, and it took him a while to return to form and play his usual physical style. “The playoffs were a balancing act,” Lundqvist said. “You try to…
