GREAT ESCAPES
Hockey players love travel just as much as anyone else. OK, maybe not 12-hour bus rides in junior or the minors, but once they get to the NHL things are pretty sweet. Anyway, when the season is finally over, the pros have just as many hot spots they like to frequent as other folks do, so we did some digging. If you like to travel and you’ve already done Vegas or Cabo or wherever the cruise ship ends up docking, we’ve got some suggestions for you. The following guide takes a look at some cool and distinct locations that offer different thrills and beautiful views throughout. Some are favorites of NHL pros, some are places the elite players even call home. But each locale has its own special niche and some destinations…

ALL-STAR CALIBER TWIGS AND MITTS
NHL PLAYERS HAVE the luxury of picking any equipment they want. Some are even paid to use certain gear. But what are the best players in the league using these days? Before Alex Ovechkin switched from CCM to Bauer, we researched what stick and gloves were used by the top-10 scorers from 2010-11, plus the nominees for the Norris and Calder trophies. For goalies, we chose the top 10 in save percentage, plus five of the other more prominent names in the game – Marc-Andre Fleury, Ilya Bryzgalov, Jonathan Quick, Ryan Miller and James Reimer – and found out what pads and catcher-blocker combos they use. Anaheim star and Hart Trophy-winner Corey Perry is an Easton man, while Habs savior Carey Price rocks Vaughn in the crease.…
