Post-Richards Turnaround

LIFE AFTER Brad Richards will be pretty painful, as a large chunk of the Stars offense has left town. Center Mike Ribeiro, winger Loui Eriksson, defenseman Alex Goligoski and the versatile Jamie Benn will be responsible for picking up the slack. With less offense, there will be more pressure on goalie Kari Lehtonen to repeat last year’s success. Most of the Stars’ best prospects are not NH L-ready, so expect a few lean years. A month into last season, Ray Whitney had managed to accumulate five whole assists to go along with zero goals for the Phoenix Coyotes. Time to give the 38-year-old the heave-ho. Time to put him out to pasture. Time for him to check out the shuffleboard courts at the old-aged-hockey-player home. At the very least it was time to drop him from the fantasy team, which is exactly what one person did, a person whose name appears at the top of this story. A couple days later he had a five-point game and quickly thereafter became a steady producer who finished with 52 more points than when he was excused from fantasy play on one fantasy team and became a member of somebody else’s. Despite that accounting, it was the right play at the…
