Nothing says outdoor hockey like frozen feet, a cup of hot chocolate and a bunch of people from Puerto Rico. Or the Netherlands. Or Libya. Plaster Rock, a small village in northwestern New Brunswick, will once again host the World Pond Hockey Championship from Feb. 10-13. The kitschy event, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, has captured the imagination of skaters from all over the world. Rocket Man on the Blueline

Windsor’s Ryan Ellis has been a favorite of prospect followers for years now thanks to his offensively sizzling game and ability to control a power play from the point. But head out west and you’ll find a very similar player blossoming in British Columbia to less fanfare. Kelowna Rockets defenseman Tyson Barrie is also slightly undersized for an NHL blueliner at 5-foot-10, but sturdy at 190 pounds. That puts him at the same size as Ellis and the similarities between the two don’t end there. Both have torn up their respective junior circuits and play with an offensive tilt to their game.
