Rounding Into Form
Erik Karlsson started out the season looking like he was suffering from a sophomore jinx. But, like the Senators, Karlsson, 20, was able to turn things around. He is back to the form that made him one of the club’s best blueliners in the playoffs last spring, contributing at both ends of the ice. “As long as we win, that’s all that is important,” said Karlsson, the club’s top pick in the 2008 draft (15th overall). “If the team plays better, then I’ll play better. It’s easy to look good when the team is winning.” Karlsson’s coach has noticed a resurgence. “He’s playing with a little more urgency,” Cory Clouston said. “He’s getting back quicker for pucks, he’s making smarter reads and I think he’s battling hard. The Journeyman
Colorado’s John Grahame began his professional career 13 years ago. He’s since cashed checks from nine teams while tending twine in three different leagues. Now he’s back in the NHL.

Burke’s Haste Makes Waste
Three years ago, just after Brian Burke won the Stanley Cup in Anaheim, THN anointed Burke the best GM in the NHL. But as Wile E. Which brings us to Burke, whose IQ didn’t drop 30 points the moment he landed in Toronto. He still has a Cup, something 23 of his 29 counterparts cannot say. More impressively, Burke walked out with the two best players…

Life of Bryan Takes a Twist
There are days when Peter DeBoer thinks about his time coaching junior. The back-to-back coach of the year awards he won in 1999 and 2000, the Memorial Cup in 2003, the 13 consecutive playoffs. But really, what the Windsor, Ont., native misses the most about those glory days is the coffee. “There’s no Tim Hortons here,” the Florida Panthers coach said. “It’s killing me.” There are other things DeBoer has been without since getting to the NHL in 2008. Like, say, participating in the playoffs. The Panthers finished with 93 points in DeBoer’s first year – the second-best point total in franchise history – but still failed to qualify for the postseason. Last season, Florida took a step backwards and ended up with the third-worst record overall. Now in his third season, DeBoer…
