DAVID CLARKSON was left breathless three times this summer. The right winger signed a three-year, $8-million contract June 30 and then married Brittany Roberts on July 17. He also expected to literally have his breath taken away by cycling 75 miles in Ontario with Lance Armstrong as part of the “Ride With Lance” charity event for cancer awareness. Clarky’s Kids raises money for children with cancer in the Kitchener area. “I called (GM Lou) Lamoriello and asked his permission,” Clarkson said. “He told me, ‘David, this is something you have to do.’ To meet Lance Armstrong is one of the highlights of my life.”…

THE BLACKHAWKS are breaking new goalie ground. Not since teams started the practice of carrying two goalies – which wasn’t officially mandated until 1965 – has a Stanley Cup champion not returned either of its puckstoppers the following season. But with Antti Niemi being let go following an arbitration award that didn’t fit the Hawks’ budget and Cristobal Huet destined to take his bloated contract to Europe, the defending champs will have an entirely new tandem to start the season for the first time. JERSEY Hound
History lessons are almost always embraced here in Houndland and the Western League’s Regina Pats have brought a nice specimen to the table for the upcoming season. This vintage sweater harkens way back to the first Pats team to win the Memorial Cup in 1925. The cream always looks good on vintage jerseys and this Pats version also features some nice Habs-esque striping across the middle of the belly. The current team logo is represented on the shoulder.…
