Florida

DAVID BOOTH has been in love with hunting from the first day his dad took him out in Michigan at age seven. That love took Booth to some exotic locations this summer. In May, he and a friend flew from Detroit to New Zealand. There, after flying more than 16 hours, Booth sat in the freezing rain waiting out a Red Stag. Booth bagged the 14-point Stag from 42 yards out with a bow. Booth also went antelope hunting with his brother in Montana. That wasn’t as successful. Upon his return to South Florida, he plans to put his alligator hunting permit to use on a friend’s airboat. “I need some new boots,” Booth joked.…

Calgary

LIKE MOST students, Jay Feaster was happy to find a job in the summer. But in so many ways, the assistant GM job he has with the Flames seems like such an unlikely way for Feaster to get back into the league. The former Tampa Bay Lightning GM had no ties to the Flames or GM Darryl Sutter. That’s right, while most of North America’s teens were getting up late and trolling Facebook, Nugent-Hopkins was throwing down the gauntlet to fellow No. 1 draft hopefuls Sean Couturier and Adam Larsson. Nugent-Hopkins kicked things off by leading Canada to gold at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Highlights included tallying a hat trick against Switzerland in the round robin, then scoring the only goal in the gold medal game as Canada slipped by the U.S. 1-0. The next week, Nugent-Hopkins had an impressive showing at the NHL’s research…

JERSEY Hound

History lessons are almost always embraced here in Houndland and the Western League’s Regina Pats have brought a nice specimen to the table for the upcoming season. This vintage sweater harkens way back to the first Pats team to win the Memorial Cup in 1925. The cream always looks good on vintage jerseys and this Pats version also features some nice Habs-esque striping across the middle of the belly. The current team logo is represented on the shoulder.…
