NY Islanders
NEWS The latest salvo in the tense negotiations between the New York Islanders (and their political supporters) and the Town of Hempstead came in the form of an ominous message on the website for the Lighthouse Project. The project, which Isles owner Charles Wang envisions including not only a new arena, but also condominiums and several other major amenities, has been in dispute for some time and a recent counter-proposal from Hempstead supervisor Kate Murray – one in which the Lighthouse Project would be greatly diminished in scope – was not received well by Lighthouse proponents. According to a joint statement on the website attributed to county executive Edward P. Mangano and the Lighthouse group, Murray’s proposal “looks to be economically unviable for both the developer and the owner of the site…

NEWS There was plenty of talk Jason Spezza might not be back in Ottawa. The reality is he was never going anywhere. VIEWS Spezza is one of the club’s best players. Like many Senators, he is inconsistent. While the teams’s No. 1 center told GM Bryan Murray in a post-season meeting he wouldn’t stand in the way of a change, Murray had no interest in getting into another Dany Heatley scenario with a top player. The Sens tried briefly to deal Spezza at the draft, but talks went nowhere. So with Spezza’s no-trade clause in effect, he’ll return to the city where he was upset at being booed during the playoffs with a focus of trying to get the Sens to the next level.…
